Comfort!  Create! Unite!

Operation Kid Comfort provides photo-transfer comfort quilts, created by hundreds of dedicated volunteers, for children of America’s deployed service men and women.  A program of the Armed Services YMCA (ASYMCA), Operation Kid Comfort offers an opportunity to unite in support of these brave men and women, and our littlest heroes, the children of America’s military families.

Quilts have long been America’s symbol of comfort.  Operation Kid Comfort builds on that heritage with photo-transfer quilts that include nine photos printed on fabric incorporated into each quilt.  Parents are encouraged to choose photos that keep special memories in tact, such as a holiday, birthday, day at the beach or a favorite activity or routine.  With deployments now lasting more than a year, having a tangible, huggable and washable collection of these images relieves some of the stress children of military families feel during these long separations.

Officially launched on Make-A-Difference Day, October 25, 2003, at Fort Bragg, NC, Operation Kid Comfort now serves American military families from Fort Drum, NY to San Diego Naval Base, CA, and overseas in Germany, with over 2,000 children served on Fort Bragg, and almost 5,000 nationwide.

News of our program and our very special ‘OpKids’ spread quickly.  By May, 2004 Operation Kid Comfort was honored at a congressional luncheon in Washington, D.C. with Raytheon’s ‘Best New Program of the Year’ award.  The following week we were highlighted on CNN American Morning as part of their ‘Extra Effort Series’.  Since then stories about Operation Kid Comfort has appeared in a variety of publications from Army Times and American Quilter to newspapers across the country and around the world.

As deployments are increased and extended we expect that number to increase substantially.  With the united effort of the ASYMCA, our volunteers, contributors and sponsors, we can meet these needs.  Please contact us at operationkidcomfort@gmail.com or visit www.operationkidcomfort.blogspot.com/ to learn more about how you can support our program.  Contributions can be mailed to:
